Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy applies to everyone who uses Receipt Maker — signed in or not, on a saved receipt or a throwaway preview. It forms part of our Terms of Service, and breaking it breaks the Terms.

Receipt Maker is operated from the European Union. Wherever you are, you are responsible for complying with the law that applies to you as well as with this policy — and some things that this policy permits may still be unlawful where you live.

These are the uses the tool exists to serve:

• Reproducing a receipt for a purchase that really happened — one you lost, one that faded, one the shop never gave you.
• Issuing receipts to your own customers for real transactions, including cash jobs, market stalls, freelance work and services billed off the books of a till system.
• Bookkeeping and expense records — reconstructing documentation of spending that genuinely took place.
• Design, film and print work — mockups, prototypes, set dressing, props and portfolio pieces.
• Teaching and training — worked examples for accounting, retail and fraud-awareness courses.
• Software development and testing — sample data for OCR, expense apps and scanning pipelines.

The thread running through all of these: the receipt either documents something real, or is plainly not being passed off as real.

You must not use Receipt Maker, or anything you make with it, to deceive anyone. Specifically, you must not:

• Fabricate a receipt to claim a refund, return, exchange, price match, warranty or chargeback you are not entitled to.
• Submit an invented or altered receipt for expense reimbursement to an employer, client, university or any other body.
• Support a tax deduction, VAT reclaim, grant claim or subsidy application with a receipt for a purchase that did not happen, or inflate the amount on one that did.
• Make or supply documentation for an insurance claim relating to property you never owned, or at a value you never paid.
• Pass off counterfeit, stolen or misrepresented goods as genuine by supplying a fabricated proof of purchase.
• Create false proof of payment to obtain goods, services, credit, benefits, a visa or immigration decision, or a court outcome.
• Forge a document intended to be relied on as a business or accounting record by an auditor, regulator, court or law enforcement body.
• Sell, share or advertise receipts made here as authentic documents issued by a business that did not issue them.
• Do anything else unlawful, fraudulent or deliberately deceptive with a receipt made on this service.

You may put a business name and logo on a receipt where you have the right to do so — because it is your own business, because you are reproducing a receipt that business genuinely issued to you, or because you have their permission.

You must not use another company’s name, logo, branding or trade dress to make a document look like an official one it never issued, and then give that document to someone who will rely on it. Uploading a logo means telling us you have the right to use it; if you do not, that is your liability, not ours.

Our built-in templates carry generic or fictional business details on purpose. Replacing them with a real company’s details for a purchase that company never made is exactly the misuse this policy prohibits.

Whatever you type onto a receipt, you must not use the service to:

• Include another person’s personal data without a lawful basis for doing so — full card numbers, national identification numbers, home addresses and the like.
• Include material that is illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening or sexually exploitative, or that infringes someone else’s copyright or trademark.
• Encode links to malware, phishing pages or other harmful destinations in a barcode or QR code.
• Impersonate a real individual.

Receipts do not need real card numbers to look right. Use the last four digits, or invent them.

Keep the service working for everyone else. Do not:

• Generate receipts in automated bulk, or script the tool to produce them at a rate a person could not.
• Work around the account requirement on downloads, rate limits, or any other technical control.
• Scrape, crawl or harvest the site beyond ordinary search-engine indexing, or copy our templates wholesale to run a competing service.
• Probe, scan or test the security of the service without our prior written permission, or attempt to access accounts, data or systems that are not yours.
• Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source of the renderer, except where the law expressly permits it.
• Upload files intended to exploit the service or the people who use it.

Found a genuine security flaw? Tell us at [email protected] before telling anyone else. Good-faith reports are welcome and we will not pursue you for them.

Receipt Maker is a drawing tool. It does not verify that a transaction took place, and a document produced here is not evidence that one did. Everything you create, and every use you put it to, is yours.

We do not read saved receipts to police their content, and we cannot tell from the outside whether a receipt documents a real purchase. That is precisely why this policy puts the responsibility on the person holding the file.

If you believe a receipt made with this tool has been used to defraud you or your business, email [email protected]. Include the document, how it reached you, and any account or transaction reference you have.

We take these reports seriously and we respond to lawful requests from law enforcement and regulators. Where we can help identify the source of a fraudulent document, we will.

Where we reasonably believe this policy has been broken, we may — in proportion to what happened — do any of the following:

• Warn you, and ask you to stop.
• Remove or disable access to specific saved receipts or uploads.
• Apply limits to your account.
• Suspend or permanently terminate your account and access.
• Report the matter to law enforcement, and provide information in response to a lawful request.

Serious cases — fraud, forgery, attacks on the service — are acted on immediately and without warning. Where the circumstances allow it, we will tell you what happened and why.

If you think we got it wrong

Email [email protected] and say so. A person will look at it again.

We update this policy as the tool changes and as new patterns of misuse appear. The date at the top is the date of the current version, and continuing to use Receipt Maker after a change means you accept it.
