Open the generator and either start from a blank receipt or pick something close from the template gallery. The preview on the right redraws as you type, so you are always looking at the thing you will download.

A receipt is assembled from sections. Add them with Add section, drag them by the handle to reorder, and delete any you do not want:

• Header — shop name, address, phone, tax number, logo.
• Date — date and time, in the format your local tills print.
• Items — line items, quantities, prices, subtotal, tax and total.
• Payment — cash or card, change given, last four digits, auth code.
• Restaurant — server name, table number, guest count.
• Barcode and QR code — enter your own value, or leave the default.
• Custom text — anything else: a returns policy, a thank-you line, a survey code.

You do not need an account to build or preview a receipt. You need a free one to download the file — see below.

Pick your format in the dropdown next to the download button, then download. The file saves straight to your device with a name like receipt-1756684800000.png — the number is a timestamp, which is what keeps two receipts made a minute apart from overwriting each other.

Where it landed

iPhone and iPad

Tap the download arrow in the Safari address bar, or open Files → On My iPhone → Downloads.

Android

Pull down the notification shade and tap the completed download, or open Files → Downloads.

macOS

The Downloads folder in Finder, or the download icon at the right of the Safari or Chrome toolbar.

Windows

The Downloads folder, or press Ctrl+J in your browser to open its download history.

Why downloading needs an account

Previews are open to everyone. Taking the finished file away needs a free account — it costs nothing, there is no card and no trial, and it is what lets us keep automated bulk abuse of the tool under control. Signing in also saves your receipts so you can reopen them later.

If you built a receipt before signing in, it is held in your browser and put back in the editor once you are in. Nothing is lost.

You opened the link inside another app

Links tapped inside Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn or a messaging app open in that app’s built-in browser, and most of those block saving files entirely. Tap the ⋯ or ⋮ menu and choose Open in browser, then download from Safari or Chrome. This is the single most common cause of a download that appears to do nothing.

Work through these in order

• Make sure you are signed in — a signed-out download is refused.
• Try PNG. It is the simplest of the three formats to produce.
• Remove a large or unusual logo and try again. Logos must be under 5 MB; very large images can push a render past its time limit.
• Reload the page and download once more. A stale tab left open for hours can lose its session.
• Turn off content blockers and privacy extensions for this site, then retry.
• Try a different browser, or the same browser on another device.

Browsers we test

Current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox, on desktop and mobile. Older browsers and stripped-down in-app browsers may render the preview but fail at the download step.

The file downloaded but looks wrong

• Text is cut off — a line is wider than the paper. Shorten it, or widen the receipt in settings.
• It looks soft — you exported JPG. Export PNG or PDF for crisp small print.
• The font changed — receipt faces are embedded at render time on our side, so this is usually a cached old file. Download again.

PNG — the default

Sharpest output and the safest choice for attaching to an email, a message or an expense claim. Pick this unless you have a reason not to.

JPG — the smallest

Noticeably smaller files, useful when something has an attachment size limit. Fine print softens slightly, so avoid it if a barcode or tax number has to stay readable.

PDF — for printing and paperwork

Use this for physical printing, and for accounting or expense software that only accepts PDFs.

All three are produced from the same receipt, at the same quality settings, with no watermark on any of them.

Fonts

Eight typefaces drawn from real till printers: Receiptional, Receipt Maker, Merchant Copy and its Wide and Double variants, Hydrogen, Clubdia and Shelf Life. Receiptional is the closest to what a supermarket till actually prints.

Logos

Upload a PNG, JPG, GIF, SVG or WebP up to 5 MB, or choose from the built-in icon set. Upload only artwork you own or are allowed to use — the Acceptable Use Policy covers other companies’ logos specifically.

Currency and numbers

Thirteen currency symbols are built in, from the dollar and euro to the zloty and the real, and you can type any other symbol by hand. Decimal and thousands separators follow the format you choose, not your browser’s locale.

Paper texture

Flat, or one of three levels of crumple. Crumple is a visual effect on the exported image; it does not change the text.

A receipt defaults to roughly 58 mm across — the width a supermarket till prints. If you are printing on 80 mm rolls, widen the receipt in settings before exporting, otherwise you get a narrow strip centered on a wide roll.

• Export as PDF for anything going to a printer.
• In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100% scale, never Fit to page — fitting silently resizes the receipt and the width stops matching your roll.
• For a thermal printer, set the paper size to your roll width in the printer driver first, then print.
• On a normal office printer, a receipt prints as a narrow column on A4 or Letter. Trim it, or print several to a sheet.

You sign in with your email address. We send a link or code to that address to confirm it is yours — there is no password to forget. If the email does not arrive within a couple of minutes, check spam, and check you typed the address correctly.

Saved receipts live in your dashboard. Open one to edit it, download it again in a different format, or delete it. Because they are stored on your account rather than in your browser, they are there when you sign in on another device.

Receipt Maker is built for real documentation: reproducing a receipt you lost, issuing one for a cash job, mocking up a design, building training material or test data. It is not built for fabricating proof of purchases that never happened.

The line is drawn in full in the Acceptable Use Policy, and it is a short read. If you are unsure whether what you have in mind is within it, read that page before you build the receipt rather than after.

When you preview or download, the receipt content is sent to our servers, drawn into an image or PDF, and returned to you. The rendered file is not kept. The content itself is stored only if you choose to save the receipt to your account, and logos you upload are stored so they can be drawn onto the receipt.

A report we can act on straight away includes: your device and operating system, your browser, the format you were exporting, what you expected, and what happened instead. If a download failed, say whether the button did nothing or the file arrived broken — those are different problems.
